1. Characterize Your Company

The very first part of branding lies in understanding your company.
Ask yourself the following questions:
What is my company’s style?
You might not have thought about this yet. That’s okay. In that case, your question simply changes to: What would I like my company’s style to be?
Is it casual or formal? Childlike or sophisticated? Rustic or high-tech? These are just some examples to help you get started. Because the possibilities, as we said, are endless.
Who is my target audience?
You need a good, strong picture of the ideal person you want your company’s messaging to reach. What's their lifestyle? What type of language do they use? What appeals to them?
2. Get Specific. Get Unique.
Avoid bland, generic names. Get as specific and concrete as possible. We all know your company is the best company ever, but Best Company Ever, Inc. just ain’t gonna do it.
Your company name should encompass both your product and the image you’re trying to portray.
When HighSky coined a name for a snappy new Instagram service, we knew it had to be brief, to-the-point, appeal to the target audience, and evoke the product. In other words, it had to be fun, young, and sound like social media. We came up with the name Lyke.
As an added bonus, the name conjures up positive associations with the product. Lyke helps businesses become well-liked on Instagram. Simple, powerful, and memorable.
